Starts next year, but found this interesting.

[quote]The Sun Belt, for one, will see a 10-fold increase in revenue, from approximately $100,000 per team to $1 million.

At $100,000 revenue, I could see where the department would be hesitant to start a SBC program, which average about $4 mil in the Belt. At $1 mil, that radically changes the equation.

Re: College football playoff

Just got to thinking:

If the college football playoffs give about $1 million, and most guarantee games for D-1A competition is $1 million. The average SBC football budget was around $5,000,000 before the year. That leaves a sizable, but manageable difference of $3 million to come from ticket sales, sponsorships and student fees.

The Nienas report figured $1.25 million from student fees in 2004, when enrollment was 24,000. It is now over 33,000, so using rough math, the revenue should be $1,750,000.

So quick math
Student fee $1,750,000
Playoff payout $1,000,000
Guarantee game $ 1,000,000

Total $3,750,000

That leaves $1,250,000 from other sources, if UTA is to hit the average SBC budget. Now also keep in mind that playoff payout will come through the conference, but it doesn't include other conference revenue from football, like bowl payouts or TV contracts.

Re: College football playoff

Fo, these are very conservative numbers, especially as regard the potential "take" from fees. An increase in the computation of average student hours and a modest increase in the fee rates would make it possible to fund the program with zero ticket sales figured in. Do these numbers include the amount that would be kicked in by the Maverick Club? They were very generous back in the day.

The other issue that always comes up is start-up money. But really, I see no reason to think of that as insurmountable.
