Who is up for a trivia game?

Who was scheduled to be the Mavericks opponent to open the 1986 season, had the program not been discontinued?

Re: UTA football trivia

I could go back and look in one of the last programs - but I think mine are all up in the attic.

I think it was Tech or TCU, but I'm not sure.

Good.

I won't reveal the number yet, but there are many more.

The only errors I saw were the teams. Skip and Byron were both drafted by the Packers, according to my source.

Is it bad that I read this post in Chris Broussard's voice?

Don't forget Cliff Odom, too; was it the Browns or the Colts who drafted him? I know he also played later with the Dolphins.

I believe Brian Happel signed as a free agent with the Jets.

Of those drafted, how many played in at least one Super Bowl?

Re: UTA football trivia

I remember Derrick Jensen in the Superbowl with the Raiders recovering a fumble in the end zone. It was too bad he didn''t get to continue this John Riggins- like career in the pros, but was merely used on special teams.

Re: UTA football trivia

Yes, Derrick Jensen played in Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII with the Raiders. He did not recover a fumble, he consecutively blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown.

Scotty Caldwell played in Super Bowl XXII with the Broncos.

Bruce Collie started Super Bowl XXIV. (he was with the 49ers for XXIII, but I don't know if he played)

Tim McKyer has the most appearances and wins, two with the 49ers, XXIII and XIV, and one with the Broncos, XXXII.

Re: UTA football trivia

Hmmm. During era after JC? Without looking, I would guess Lamar and East Texas State, now TAMU Commerce.

Re: UTA football trivia

All questions will refer to 4-year status, unless otherwise noted.

Lamar is half correct, the other team was not East Texas State, now known as A&M-Commerce.

We faced Lamar and another team 22 times.

Re: UTA football trivia

Let's see. Again without checking, if it was not ETSU, I was thinking it had to be one of the original SLC schools. Were the first five ASC, Lamar Tech, Trinity, ACC and Arkansas State? I think so. Thus, ASU is probably the other one.

Re: UTA football trivia

That line of thinking led to the right answer. UTA first played Arkansas St and Lamar in 1964 and played ever year until 1985, a total of 22 meetings.
