A nice, through win against a good Georgia State team to start conference play, followed by a 20-point drubbing of a very young Georgia Southern squad, means the Mavs are 2-0 in SBC play.

The last time UTA made the tournament, they started the year 10-2 in non-conference play, before dropping the first two SLC games and finishing 7th in the SLC. Nice to avoid that kind of start this year.

Yes, this is shaping up to be a classic, historical season for UTA. Could it be the last one for us to have Scott Cross? I hope not. He has finally gotten us past a couple of big name wins (I don't count UTElP or Riceroni). If we can stay healthy, especially mentally, and if we can match up well against Little Rock, this could be a storybook season.

Good to be back...

I think if this team avoids the injuries we had last year they can make some noise in March. If they make the tourney I am hoping they get put in the St Louis pod so I can easily attend the game now that I am living there.

St Louis has a pod?

I guess it's way too early to speculate, but I'm hoping the Sun Belt gets more than one bid, and that we get a nice seeding, commensurate with our record. Yes, it's way too early.

BTW, are any UTA fans posting on CSNbbs or elsewhere? Even TCU and UNT fans seem to be all over the place. We should be better represented.

Little Rock has only lost one game, but they haven't played exactly a tough schedule. I think the Sun Belt schedule will present good challenges for them. If they lose like 2 games the rest of the way, I'll tip my hat and say great job.

They lost to Ttech and after a 20 point win over LaLa, just barely got past LaMo, 58-57.  Kind of like our close call against AppState.  I'm with you.  Just two losses would be a good outcome, assuming they're not both against LR.

Tonight we had another nice win in Alabama, 90-63 over Troy. It didn't look that easy at first, as the Troyjans came out hot and had us down by 15. But then UTA went crazy hot and had a 22-9 run, and were leading from then on.
Eight in a row is nice. I hope Cross keeps reminding the guys of what happened in 2011. This team should finish better.

The surge to come from behind and turn it into a blow out was impressive. I watched the highlights and you could see the confidence spreading. I think for us to get an auto-bid we have to get out of conference play with no more than 2 losses and lose in a close conference championship game against a team like Little Rock (On another note I like them going by Little Rock now for branding. I think we are headed that direction with our unis having only Arlington on the front...)

Yeah the Scottrade Center out here is one of the sites. Oklahoma City is another site so my guess is they would land in one of those 2 sites should they make it.

Bad loss to South Alabama.. the past few games have felt like last year, playing from behind.. allowing 3 point buckets galore.

On another note, I did not expect the upsets over the weekend, they were bound to happen at some point:
UTA loses to South Alabama
Georgia State loses to UL Lafayette
UALR loses to AState.

I have a feeling it is going to be a crazy season in conference. Our players seem to not be as focused as they were when they started the season. It has to be hard keeping players focused after the long break over the holidays and then conference season starting as classes start back. I think Coach Cross will right the ship, but we can't afford another loss to a team we should beat if we want to have any chance at an auto-bid if we don't win the conference tourney.

Sun Belt is likely to be a one-bid league after our loss to USA and Little Rock's loss to stAte. Both are out of the top 60 in RPI and 40/50 is where we need to be.

And yes Duck, I'm on CSNBB.

Nice game and nice crowd.  Who else is going on Saturday?  LR is a serious challenge.  I hope KH is not seriously injured, not that we needed him tonight!

LR is going to be a much harder challenge than stAte, at least looking at the nom-conference results.

And Kevin Hervey tore his ACL. We're still a good team, but losing our best player...

Losing Hervey hurts, but if 3 or 4 guys can make an extra basket or two each, we can still easily win 10-15 games in conference. And we've seen a couple of games where Hervey didn't play (the other night) and we still got 51 rebounds and 90+ points; or a game or two where he didn't score much first half and we managed to put the game out of reach in the first 10:00 or so. I think Hawkins will see more playing time, as will Eubanks. The big question is can get to the basket if the threes aren't falling. Jalen Jones is probably our best option there. It seems like there are so many players that can rebound, pass and score, I'm not sure if the production point-wise really goes down or not. Just think: next year all but a couple of players come back, so worst case scenario is to think of this season as 29 games to get ready for 2016-2017.

And LR lost to Arkansas State and had to play OT to beat Texas State. Slow starts have hurt them the last few games. If we can come out with a rare fast start and get up by 10 or so by 7:00 remaining in the first half, I think we have a good chance.

That was a tough way to lose to Little Rock. We completely laid an egg in the first half and Little Rock came out hot. That said we still had a chance to win the game if we could have had more shots falling. The 2nd half showed we can play without Hervey, but we are going to have to find more ways to score when the 3 pointers aren't falling. The problem with that was that Hervey helped space the floor out with his ability to go inside and outside. Coach may have to do some tinkering on offense this week.
